About Me and My Practice
Credentials
My name is Dr. Jeremy Parker, and I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I attended medical school at Brown University and completed my residency training at California Pacific Medical Center. I consider it my privilege to navigate the road to wellness at your side. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming provider and enjoy working with patients of all gender identities and sexual orientations.
Working with Medications
For many mental health concerns, medications remain the most effective treatment available. At the same time, medications are not for everyone. My job as a prescriber is to use my expertise to help you decide whether medications are right for you at this particular time in your life. I will then offer you a menu of options catered to your specific needs and preferences. I also take my oath to do no harm seriously, which means that I will not prescribe a medication to you if it is my clinical opinion that it will lead to undesired consequences.
Talk Therapy
While I aspire for all of my patient encounters to be therapeutic, I will be maintaining a select number of spots in my schedule for dedicated “hour-long” psychotherapy sessions. Many people believe a therapist’s job is to give advice. As I was launching this practice, I heard someone describe herself and other therapists as “having all the answers.” In my opinion, it is you who has all the answers. My job as a therapist is to work with you to uncover those answers, and to guide you toward living a life that reflects the version of yourself that you want to be. The foundation of my therapy practice lies in the psychodynamic tradition, though I may draw on aspects of other modalities depending on your individual needs.
